The Itch to Scratch: My Anti-Itch / Post - Work Out Scalp Spray

The itch, the burn, the scratch, the horror… THE HORROR! Nothing burns my day old biscuits to a crisp quicker than an itchy scalp.  For those of us with extremely thick and dense roots, that said itchy scalp could burn more than 100 biscuits.  Add being a gym rat to that equation, and you’ve just doubled your load of toasted buns.  Case in point: My life leads to an itchy scalp, and it sucks.  What better way to reward a girl for loving her natural hair the way God intended for it to be and for actually taking her health seriously by regularly working out than to set her scalp on fire at least 3 times a week? Thanks life, that makes sense.

So over the years I have been using (clears throat) THE BEST anti-itch / post - workout scalp spray! When I use this spray, not only does the itch beat it, but my scalp feels refreshed…invigorated if you will.  It soothes my scalp, and subconsciously my nerves as well.  So listen up (or read rather) for the ingredients!

Purified Water / Rose Water

Tea Tree Oil

Peppermint Oil

Rosemary Oil

Jamaican Black Castor Oil

Argan Oil

Vitamin E Oil

I combine all of these ingredients into old cheap perfume bottles that I have (but you can also cop you one from the travel section at Target for only ~$2), and it’s PERFECT for distributing my Superman spray through my roots!

If you're grew up like me, then you got whoopin's for letting the water run; don't waste water, and don't make a mess: use a funnel if the opening to your bottle is small.

I place about 10-15 drops of each essential oil (the peppermint, tea tree, and rosemary oils) into the bottle.

You can read about the benefits of these essential oils and others that you may want to add in the cauldron here.

Once again, I hate making a mess while doing these projects, it just makes it seem more like a chore; so I use an eye dropper to add my heavier oils (the argan, Jamaican black castor, and vitamin E oils).  I add about 2-3 squirts of each oil.  You can purchase the eye droppers at your local CVS or Walgreen's.

Please take note that the oils naturally settle at the top of the mixture; therefore, you MUST shake it like a Polaroid picthaaaaa each time before spraying!

I spray this concoction of Jesus's pure love and unicorn tears all over my scalp and massage it into my roots when my workouts leave me with a itchy scalp, or just whenever the itch wants to pop up unexpectedly.  I also grab this as a scalp refresher if it’s been a long week and I’ve got the itch + buildup, and spending my only day off washing my hair for 5-6+ hours is not on my task list; it makes extending my wash day to 2 weeks post-wash that much easier to get through.

I keep this spray in my purse and my workout bag, and while it might seem to air on the side of ratchet to whip this out of your bag when your scalp is yelling for it, TRUST ME, it’ll save you any time.  So try it! And let me know what you think!
